About The COMBI Institute

The COMBI Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based out of New York, and Indianapolis, USA. In collaboration with selected United Nations agencies, national governments, international and local Civil Society Organisation (CSOs),  and the City University of New York (CUNY), the COMBI Institute is dedicated to building the capacity of governments and other local institutions (primarily but not exclusively) of low-income countries, especially staff in Ministries of Health, associated Ministries and partner agencies, to use the WHO strategic communication planning methodology called Communication for Behavioral Impact (COMBI) to achieve concrete behavioral results in health and social development. COMBI focuses on getting behavioral outcomes and not just increasing awareness, or informing and educating people. COMBI work has been carried out in about 80 countries to date.

COMBI in the Field

"COMBI plans are not developed in the office; they are developed in the field. Hence get thee to the field". This is a constant refrain in COMBI work. No COMBI plans are designed without extensive formative/market/field research. A COMBI mantra goes: "Do nothing - make no posters, no T-shirts, no websites, no caps, no radio spots, no pamphlets, etc  - until one has gone out in the field to listen to people ."  It is only through this listening do we capture behavioral insights. The gallery of photos below highlights field work done by COMBI associates in Madagascar and Kenya
